Dean's Welcome Address

Prof E. L. Adebayo had his First Leaving Certificate in 1966, the WASC, 1972, Teachers’ Grade Two Certificate, 1977 and NCE, 1981. Thereafter, he obtained the B.Ed, MLS and PhD degrees from the Universities of Ilorin, Ibadan and Uyo in 1985, 1987 and 2004.

Certified as a teacher and as a librarian in 2004 and 2005 respectively, he taught in various primary and secondary schools between 1977 and 1989 before going into librarianship for thirty-three years. He was head of five University libraries for 28 years back-to-back. These are Federal College of Education Technical, Omoku, 1996-2005, as College Librarian, Federal University Technology, Akure, as University Librarian, 2006-2008, Redeemer’s University, Ede 2009-2018, as University Librarian and as Visiting Librarian and Ag. Head of Library, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, 2019. He was University Librarian, Lagos State University, December, 2019 to November, 2023. Currently, he is the acting dean, School of Library, Archival and Information Science, LASU

The career trajectory of Prof. Adebayo who was the immediate past University Librarian, LASU is uniquely characterised in the following ways:    

i.                   First registered teacher by the Teacher’s Registration Council in Rivers State in 2004 with Reg. No. RV/000001.

ii.                 First LASU Professor of Library and Information Science.

iii.              First Inaugural Lecturer in the school and LIS department, LASU.

iv.              First Dean to admit degree students into the department of Library and Information Science in the 2023/2024 academic session.

v.                 First PhD graduate of Library and Information Science, that was produced by the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in 2004.

vi.              Privileged to adorn convocation gowns 27 times back-to-back from 1996 to 2024 in five different institutions, 26 times as University Librarian (probably the first, globally) and once as a dean.  

Prof. Adebayo has served as External Examiner of doctoral candidates in 9 universities outside the shores of Nigeria and as External Assessor of 15 professorial candidates in some Nigerian Universities. He has visited several countries including USA, Canada, Greece, Netherlands, UK, Ethiopia, Morocco, South Africa and Ghana.  He is married with children and grand children.
