HOD's Welcome Address

It has been more than 36 years since the Chemistry department was established. The journey has been steady and progressive. We are part of the Faculty of Science, where the opportunity for interdisciplinary coursework and research provides a rich experience for undergraduate and graduate students. Our department has a long tradition of leadership at the national and University level, reflected by many honours and awards. The programmes offered in the department are accredited by the Nigerian University Commission(NUC). The department’s academic and non-academic members are professionals with zeal and skill to build human capacity.

About Us

Chemistry is described as the central science because of its versatility and broadness. It is a study of matter and its transformations. Chemistry plays a central and supporting role in biotechnology, food science, nanotechnology, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, manufacturing, mining and crime detection, etc. Chemistry and its related fields have provided solutions to life’s challenges in energy, food, drug discovery, transportations, clothing, tourism and hardware. The Department of Chemistry at Lagos State University is a versatile department that prides itself on teaching and research. It is one of the most staffed departments in the University, with about 90% lecturing staff with Ph.D. Degrees.

BSc Undergraduate in Chemistry (BSc Hons)

Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry(PgD) in Analytical/ Environmental Chemistry

Masters in Chemistry

Ph.D. degree in Chemistry

Research areas include Organic Chemistry, Natural Products, Environmental Chemistry, Material Science, Inorganic Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry and Physical Chemistry.

It is not a façade of theories but proof of practicalities

It is the thinking outside box

And modifying our existence
