3rd LASUCAS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

Bridging the Atlantic: Brazil and Sub-Saharan Africa, South-South Partnering for Growth

Trans-Atlantic dialogues on cultural heritage began a long time ago between Brazil and Africa and continue to the present day. This conference offers a venue for exploring trans-Atlantic dialogues that consider Brazil and Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as the flow of people, objects and ideas across the Atlantic. Trans-Atlantic Dialogues on Cultural Heritage: Heritage, Tourism and Traditions, etc. will take place. Although there is a strong historic element to the conference, the event will take an interdisciplinary approach to cultural heritage, encompassing such disciplines a Literature, Anthropology, Afrobrazilian Studies, Geography, Science, Technology, and even Architecture

Since a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Federal University of Bahia, Salvador, Brazil and the Lagos State University in 2019, the LASUCAS has held its 1st conference in the Lagos State University, Lagos, Nigeria in 2020 and the 2nd at the Federal University of Bahia, Salvador in 2022. Having now expanded its partnership, the 3rd International Conference will be held in collaboration with the Research Group on Ethnicities, the School of Postgraduate Studies in Architecture and Urbanism (PPGAU), Federal University of Bahia, Brazil; the Instituto Hoju in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the Laboratory of African Studies (Lab-Iṣẹ́) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Abstract Submission

An outcome document would be prepared from conference papers for publication as a journal for wider sharing with stakeholders

  1. Each proposal for oral presentation must consist of a research title
  2. an abstract of 250 words, in Times New Roman, font 12, single space. a list of author (s), Names: (Surname, First name, middle name), institutional affiliation, and email. Panel proposals should, in addition, include a brief rationale of no more than 100 words, and abstracts for all papers.
  3. Abstract should be submitted in both Yoruba and English Versions
  4. A panel comprises a minimum of four and maximum of six papers and must be aligned to one of the sub-themes.
  5. Poster presentations are accepted for this conference.
  6. All authors must state clearly whether their abstracts are for oral presentation, panel sessions or poster presentations.

All submissions should be in Word format (for abstracts with special characters, also submit a PDF version). The main languages of the conference are Portuguese and English. However, papers in French may be considered. Abstracts for papers to be given in French should be submitted in both French and English

  1. Presenters: N30,000 (thirty thousand naira only)
  2. Postgraduate Students: N15,000.00 (Fifteen thousand naira only)

Important Information

  1. Feeding and Accommodation: The cost of meals and hotel accommodation will be borne by the conference participants. However, the conference organisers will provide lunch to participants during the duration of the conference
  2. Travelling expenses: For international participants: Travelling expenses, to and from Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, are to be borne by the participants. However, the conference organisers will provide transportation from the airport to the hotel/conference venue for international participants, and back to the airport after the conference. International participants are to provide their flight itineraries to the organisers early enough.
  3. Visas for international participants: The conference organisers will issue letters of acceptance/invitation to participants whose abstracts have been accepted. If you require a visa to enter Nigeria, you may need to apply for your entry visa early at a Nigerian Embassy or Consulate in your home country. A letter of acceptance/invitation and your proof of registration for the conference may be the only set of documents that we can offer in support of your application. However, you may wish to let us know how further we can assist within reasonable legal limits
