The establishment of the Centre for Planning Studies by the Lagos State University was in fulfillment of one of its cardinal objectives, which is the provision of qualitative training in areas of critical need and relevance to the state in particular, and the nation in general. The location of Lagos State University in a rapidly urbanizing metropolis makes the institution an ideal laboratory for planning education. The Centre is therefore conceived primarily as an avenue for providing an enabling academic environment for the training of middle- and high-level professionals in the various specialties of urban and regional planning.

Vision Statement

“To train and produce world-class professional town planners and environmentalists equipped with requisite knowledge and skills to solve contemporary planning and development problems; and who are ethically upright and excellent in character and service to humanity.”

Mission Statement

“To foster the realization of an orderly development of our physical environment and the optimum management of our natural resources, including land, through research and training. Also to translate such research efforts through teaching and community service to the production of highly skilled personnel whose academic and professional activities will enhance the livability of our urban and rural areas for improved longevity and the overall development of our nation.” Also, to further the practice and theoretical development of urban and regional planning by providing a conducive teaching, learning and development environment where staff and students can interact and compete effectively with their counterparts nationally and internationally in terms of intellectual and professional competence.
