Research Interest

Topic: Assessing The Availability Of Human And Technical Resources In Broadcast Media Organisations To Facilitate Interoperability For Conflict Management In Oyo And Lagos State

Description: Developing journalists competence involves two basic objectives: enhancing the technical resources available to journalists such as computers, internet facilities and official vehicles , and enhancing human resources such as writing ability, editing skills, and training to facilitate interoperability towards conflict management.Findings on the human and technical resources to facilitate interoperability information sharing for conflict management revealed technical and human resources available in the broadcast media organisations to facilitate interoperability towards conflict management included availability of professionally qualified and competent News reporters, availability of competent Editorial writers and News managers, provision of communication equipment, provision of internet facilities, and funding operating cost. Technical and human resources are important to facilitate conflict management and without them, journalists ability to perform their duties is difficult. Human resource needs are more difficult to define and to provide because they are not tangible goods but the principal method of enhancing human resources is through journalist training, often through peer-to-peer training conducted by journalists. Consequently, addressing human resource needs must be a top priority.

Perception of Homemakers In Lagos Metropolis on Nigerian Movies and Homebuilding

Research Details

Over the years, the media have evolved as a veritable social institution with varied degree of impacts and influences on the society at large. The media have become an inseparable part of people s lives, of their sense of who they are and of their sense history. The focus of the research is to know the degree of influence Nollywood movies have on women as primary homemakers, as women are considered as primary home builders or home makers. Since more and more homes are fast disintegrating as divorce rate keeps soaring globally most especially in Nigeria, marriage has declined as the central institution under which households are organized and children are raised. People marry later and divorce and cohabitate more. A growing proportion of children has been born outside of marriage. Even within marriage the changes have been profound as more and more women have entered the labour force and gender roles have become homogeneous between husbands and wives. Using descriptive survey method, 227 viewers of Nollywood movies will be interviewed via self-administered questionnaires. The study will determine the influence Nigeria movies viewership have on women in building their homes and the extent Nollywood movies influence home building in terms of acquiring knowledge to relate with their family members, foster unity, nurture children, facilitate effective communication and help to foster good relationships among family members. The study expects that although most women watch movies for entertainment purpose, they should also be able to apply the knowledge gained to build their matrimonial homes.
