Biography

I am a self-motivated individual, diligent and energetic with a strong academic background. I obtained B.Sc and M.Sc in Biochemistry from the Lagos State University, Lagos Nigeria in 1996 and 2001 respectively, and doctoral degree in Biotechnology at the University of the Western Cape, Capetown, South Africa in 2013. I started my academic carrier as a research assistant in the department of Biochemistry, Lagos State University Ojo 1998, Lagos where I rose to the position of a Senior lecturer in Department of Biochemistry, Lagos State University Ojo, Lagos .I take a special interest in identifying students’ learning needs and designing appropriate learning objectives, providing advice on study skills and also helping students with learning problems.
Research: My research interest involves Basic research where we seek to explore the mechanism and the molecular basis of cervical cancer with a view to enhancing an understanding of how cervical cancer develops and also provide the foundation for developing potential chemoprophylactic or theraupetic agents or diagnostic tests for cancers. I also focus on Translational research ( drug discovery and development) where we utilize the knowledge gained from basic research or the understanding of cancer biology to develop potential new treatments or diagnostic tests for cancers and also Population and behavioral research (Epidemiological research) where we focus on the burden of the various forms of cancers in Nigeria, identify the risks for cancers, and also look at how our behaviour or lifestyles can predispose to or protect against cancers.
I have contributed a total of twenty five (25) articles in reputable local and international journals. I have also participated in many training courses, symposia, and conferences both at local and international levels. I also enjoy collaborating with academic colleagues on program development, program design, and module changes, selecting appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assessing the academic activities and progress of students, and providing constructive feedback to students. I’ve been serving as a reviewer for some high-impact factor journals such as Medicinal Chemistry Research and also an external examiner for both postgraduate and undergraduates thesis both at local and international levels. I am a member of different professional bodies such as: Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing world (OWSD), Nigeria institute of Food and Science Technology, Nigeria society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Nutrition society of Nigeria, Nigeria society of endocrinology and metabolism, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (USA) (ASBMB) (27389), Biochemical society (UK) (00955405), African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) , American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) (259734) , the Association African Biomedical Scientists, Inc. and South African Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I am presently a post-doctoral research fellow at Walter Sisulu University where I focus on Metabolomics profiling and Cytotoxicity potentials of some South African seaweeds.
