Research Interest

Topic: SYSTEMATICS AND ETHNOBOTANICAL STUDIES OF THE GENUS TEPHROSIA PERS

Description: Tephrosia Pers. is a genus in the Family Fabaceae, commonly called Hoary Pea with over 400 species worldwide, but about twenty in Nigeria. Tephrosia is a pan tropical genus. The genus has been described as a taxonomically difficult group. hence, the systematic studies interest. The group is ethnobotanically of economic importance. It provides food for both animal and man. It also provides various ethnobotanical properties. hence the interest in studies.Methodology.Both fresh and herbarium sample to be collected and studied, both gross-morphologically, and ethnobotanically Survey studies, Phytochemical screening and GCMS analysis

Current Research

CHEMOSYSTEMATIC STUDY AND PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING OF PLANTS ASSOCIATED WITH INFERTILITY IN WOMEN

Research Details

The use of plants in treating infertility in women has been more traditional than modern medicine from time immemorial. Infertility in women is majorly commonly caused by fibroid, menstrual irregularities, pelvic inflammatory disease PID such as Chlamydia infections responsible for about 75% of infertility in women, gonorrhea pelvic tuberculosis, and non-sterile abortion, worms, etc. Different plants have been used to cure this disease, using the leaf, the bark, the seeds, or fruits. The research is aimed at identifying, grouping, characterizing the plants and their active principles in treating infertility in women. Both ethnobotanical survey phytochemical analysis and anatomical studies methods are being employed and used to obtain relevant information and data for analysis. Collected plants are also authenticated and verified in the LASU herbarium for voucher numbers. Survey has shown that over twenty 20 plants have fertility properties. Selected examples of flowering plants used /to be used include Morinda lucida Morinda , Newbouldia laevis, Zingiber officinale Ginger , Vernonia amygdalina Bitter leaf , Corchorus olitorus Ewedu , and Ageratum conyzoides Otogo .
