Current Research

Caffeine and sexual behaviors and erectile functions in rats

Research Details

Caffeine is a natural stimulant commonly found in beverages. The study is aimed at investigating the outcomes of caffeine on sexual behaviour and erectile muscle in male rats. Male Wistar rats were randomly assigned into control group A and treated groups B and C , n=5 . Group A received 60mg/kg of distilled water while groups B and C received 20mg/kg and 60mg/kg body weight of caffeine respectively via oral administration for 21 days. Body weights were checked weekly and a libido test was performed using the male and female rats to determine the mounting frequency on the evening of day 21. Serum levels of testosterone, luteinizing hormone LH , and follicle-stimulating hormone FSH were assayed using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay ELISA . Epididymal sperm count, viability, and motility were assessed. Testicular histopathology will be studied as well as erectle smooth contractility. Data were analyzed graph pad prism version 8.02, Newman keuls was used as posthoc test while P 0.05 was considered significant in all cases.
