FOSTERING INTER-RELIGIOUS COHESION: THE ROLE OF FAITH-BASED SCHOOLS AND THE NEED FOR A CURRICULUM REVAMP
SummaryEducation of any kind is intended as a tool for social change and a veritable instrument of solving societal problems. Faith-based Schools no doubt are purposely built, and therefore have an important role to play in creating a cohesive and harmonious society as advocated for in the holy books. This study seeks to evaluate the role of faith-based schools in encouraging harmonious relationships between the different religious communities of Lagos State. Using the survey design,4 major faith-based schools were sampled. Among others, the study recommends the integration of aspects of the different faiths in the curriculum. The inclusion of these will go a long way to sensitize and educate learners about belief systems of other faith, highlighting the areas of commonalities and similarities rather than differences. Keywords: Faith-based, inter-religious, fostering, Social change, harmonious relationship.
