Research Interest

Topic: Erythropoietic Potentials Of Hematinic Plants

Description: I seek to unravel and to explain how plants with erythropoietic potentials (Hematinic Plants) initiate erythropoiesis under stress conditions such as aneamic and to ascertain the plant constituents involved. Certain progenitor cells, receptors (PPRP nuclear receptor), signaling pathways/molecules, transcription factors and genes have been implicated in the process of stress erythropoiesis in response to certain anemic condition. Interaction between each of these and the likely effect on the development of new red blood cells in stress erythropoiesis and anemia associated with disease condition like cancer, diabetes and malaria will be the major focus of my research drive.

Current Research

Targeting the Beta catenin protein interaction network in acute myeloid leukaemia

Research Details

Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) is a disease of the bone marrow.beta-catenin play a pivotal role in leukaemogenesis, rendering the protein an ideal therapeutic target. The aim of this project is to further Investigate the biological significance of these protein interactions in the context of AML pathology, normal haematopoietic stem progenitor cells (HSPC) development and overall Wnt signalling output. in the course of this work, I will adopt techniques of gene transduction, tissue culture, microscopy, flow cytometry and RNAseq to interrogate the project aimusing laboratory derived leukaemia cell lines, primary HSPCs and primary AML patient cells.Knowledge acquired here will be engaged in understanding the interactions between hematinic plants and erythripoietic pathway during erythropoiesis
