Topic: Prevalence,forms And Precipitating Factors Of Domestic Violence Among Pregnant Women: Compararative Study Between Selected Rural And Urban Community In Ibadan,Oyo State

Description:

Domestic violence during pregnancy is a public health problem which violates human rights and causes an adverse effect on both maternal and fetal health. The study was carried out to determine the prevalence ,forms and precipitating factors of domestic violence among pregnant women. Descriptive comparative study was utilized for the study with validated questionnaire developed by the researcher as a tool of data collection after wealth of literature review. Hundred and fifty questionnaires were administered to the respondents, for a period of 8 weeks.The prevalence rate of DV was higher in the urban setting (53.7%), and financial abuse was found to be the commonest form of abuse from the study.

The study reviewed that DV during pregnancy is still on the high rate in Ibadan, therefore a comprehensive program to curb the menace will be needed.

LIFE SATISFACTION ASSESSMENT OF ELDERLY LIVING IN GERIATRIC HOME:CASE STUDY OF A GERIATRIC HOME IN IBADAN

Research Details

Due to the gradual extinction of the extended family system,many Nigerian elderly now live in geriatric homes. The main objective of the study was to assess the level of life satisfaction of the elderly living in geriatric home. Descriptive exploratory design with a qualitative approach was used to elicit data from the 13 participants using in-depth interview. Illness, childlessness, and loneliness were found to affect their  life satisfaction. 53.8% of the participants had poor perception about the home, mainly due to movement restriction in the home and lack of private life.

In conclusion, all participants hope to leave home and re-unite ans live with their loved ones. it is therefore imperative for all stakeholders to put necessary measures in place,to strengthen family institutions and elaborate the training of health professional in geriatric care.
