ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN STAGE MAKEUP: INNOVATIONS AND THREATS
Technological advancement, just as in other human phenomenon, have exacted lots of influences on theatre design. This is evident in ways technology make design areas to grow by improving the approaches with which complex design tasks in a performance could be completed. Stage makeup has rich history as one of the essential visual elements in theatre performance which is use to effect verisimilitude. One of the significant contribution of technology in stage makeup is Artificial Intelligence (AI)[1]. It is a tool that is being used in revolutionising the techniques, methods, materials and reduction in time for stage makeup in theatrical performances.
Comprehensive review of existing literature and
research on AI applications in stage makeup reveals a need for balancing
innovation with ethical responsibility. The future of AI in stage makeup
depends on addressing the challenges and fear that the employment of the use of
AI in stage makeup might poses to makeup design profession. A focus group
discussion (FGD) and survey on the opinions based on the experiences of makeup
designers within and outside the academic setting in Lagos State have been
employed for this descriptive research finding. This paper contributes to the
ongoing discussion on AI's role in the entertainment industry, particularly in
traditional theatre production, providing insights into its potential benefits from
the innovations and drawbacks in stage makeup profession.
