Burden of Malaria among under-fives in rural communities in Lagos
Over the years many there have been many interventions targeted at malaria. This appears to have paid off as there has been a global decline in malaria. Data from our previous study on malariometric indices in under-fives, conducted several years ago and published in the Malaria Journal, showed an unexpectedly low prevalence of malaria in the study area in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. This follow up survey is to assess if the low burden of malaria has been maintained and to identify factors affecting malaria burden. Malaria preventive measures in use will also be assessed. This community based study will adopt a mixed methods approach. Findings from the present study will be compared with the previous one and with other recent literature. It is anticipated that the data from the survey will be useful to government by providing data on the burden of malaria and where to direct resources. Appropriate recommendations will be made to the government based on this.
