Comparative study of Students Performance in WASC Examination Between 2000-2009 and 2010-2019
IntroductionThe function of secondary school is to prepare students for useful living within the society and to have access to higher education. Students at the completion of their secondary education take external examinations such as the West African Examinations Council WAEC and the National Examinations Council NECO . The success of an individual student and the school as a whole is a function of passes at credit level in English language and Mathematics at the external examinations. As important as these two subjects, the performance of students in the subjects in external examination has been worrisome.Statement of the ProblemStudies have been carried out to find out the plausible causes of the poor performance and solutions proffered, yet no appreciable improvement have been recorded. This study is aimed to find out whether the increase in the number and collapsing of subjects in the curriculum is one of the causes of the poor performance among senior secondary students in Lagos state. Thus, a Comparative study of Students Performance in WASC Examination Between 2000-2009 And 2010-2019 will be carried out.MethodologyThe study will adopt an ex-post facto research design. Schools that were established and presented students for external examinations since year 2000. Five research questions will be answered and five hypotheses will be tested. A self-developed questionnaire and school records of WAEC results will be used as data collection instruments.Work done so farThe researcher has written the introduction and developed the questionnaire.Work yet to be doneCollection, analysis and interpretation of data.
