Research Details

neck circumference and metabolic syndromethe objective is to find out if the measurement outcome of neck circumference correlates with the metabolic control blood sugar and lipid parameters of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. It is well known that obesity affects the metabolic control of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Conventional anthropometric indices have been used to measure obesity in the general population. now its becoming more prominent that the measurement of the neck circumference is being used to monitor upper body adiposity while the conventional anthropometric indices like the waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, body mass index, and waist-to-height ratio are used to measure lower body adiposity central obesity . Obesity is a known cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Several studies have shown that the neck circumference correlates with the waist circumference. With this in mind, we aim to find out if the neck circumference correlates with the metabolic control of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Conventional anthropometric indices are very popular as a tool for detecting the various form of obesity in the general population. The body mass index BMI measures general body obesity while waist circumference, waist-to-height ratio, and waist-to-hip ratio measure central obesity. Central obesity visceral obesity is highly linked to the severity of morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular of the general population. We aim to find out if the neck circumference which is known to correlate with the waist circumference can directly be linked to the metabolic control in type 2 dm patients. The neck circumference is a very easy index to measure using nonelastic dress makers tape. Diabetic patients who are moribund or handicapped can easily have their neck circumference measured
