Ibrahim BAKARE is a Professor of Economics and currently the Head at the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences of the Lagos State University, Ojo Campus, Lagos. He received his Bachelor of Science degree B.Sc (Hons) in Economics from the Lagos State University, where he emerged the best graduating student and also bagged several awards. Bakare also obtained both the M.Sc (Marketing) degree in Business Administration, where he emerged the best graduating student and the M.Sc Economics degree from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos. He also completed both the M.Sc Environmental Resources Management degree and the Master degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos. Bakare completed his Post-Graduate Diploma in Research Methods in Social Sciences and the Ph.D degree in Development and Economic Studies at the University of Bradford, West-Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
In 2004, he was appointed as a member of the Editorial Board that pioneered the LASU Journal of Economics. Since 2006, he has served as a reviewer and member of editorial board of several Journals locally and internationally. Between 2007 and 2010, he had a stint as a Part-time senior academic teaching staff at the Hexagon Management and Technology College (Manchester), Lighthouse Business College, (Manchester), Lincolns College (Manchester) and Manchester College of higher Education and Media Technology, England, respectively.
Between 2016 and 2017, he served as an Assistant Director at the LASU External System (Ikoyi/Lekki Campuses), through which the External System became strategically repositioned. Also between 2016 and 2020, he was appointed as an Assistant Director at the University’s Directorate of Research and Academic Linkages (whose main task was to mobilise grants, provide grant writing supports, facilitate exchange programmes, and strengthen the university’s networks through robust partnership locally and internationally), now, Directorate of Linkages, Partnership and Collaborations. Bakare was a member of the University Committee that pioneered the National Workshop on Research Grant Writing and Administration in 2018. He served as a member of LASU Strategic Think-Tank Committee that blueprinted the THEMES Development Document of the present administration of the Lagos State Government. He is currently a member of the Lagos State University Financial Sustainability Committee. He has over fifty scientific publications and has attended several National and International conferences and workshops. Bakare is a Fellow and member of reputable learned societies and professional bodies locally and internationally. He has also served as both internal and external examiners in some universities at the degree and postgraduate levels. He is currently the Ag. Head of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos.
His research centers on Development Economics, specifically on Economics of Governance, Poverty Studies, Institutional Economics and Natural Resources Economics and the policy implications of these research areas for the development of the Nigerian economy. Bakare continues to build on international linkages, alliances and networks in his areas of research and teaching engagements.
