Predicting Prostate Cancer using Deep Learning with Whole Slide Images
Prostate cancer (PCa) remains one of the common diagnosed tissue malignancies
among men worldwide and ranks as second leading cause of cancer-related
mortality among men in several countries after lung cancer, making it a major
public health concern for young and majorly aging men worldwide. PCa is
characterized by the uncontrolled growth of cells in the prostate gland. Prostate
gland is a small, walnut-shaped gland located below the bladder in males. The
bladder stores urine that has been filtered from the blood by the kidneys. The
prostate surrounds a portion of the urethra and produces a fluid that forms an
essential component of semen. Like many glandular tissues in the body, the
prostate is susceptible to abnormal cellular proliferation, which may lead to
conditions such as PCa. PCa is classified as an adenocarcinoma. The term adeno
refers to glandular structures while carcinoma denotes cancers that arise from
epithelial cells.
We are examining the performance of deep learning models in predicting and grading of prostate cancer using whole slide images using PRISMA as a method to identify relevant articles to the study
