Comprehensive Directory Cataloguing of Institutions providing ODL Programmes in the West African Sub-region
This research aimed to close the gap that exists in
the absence of a comprehensive directory of institutions providing Open and
Distance Learning (ODL) programs in seven West African countries, namely
Nigeria, Guinea Bissau, Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Gabon, by
providing easy access to vital information about available opportunities for
prospective students, educators and policymakers. The list of accredited
universities was created, including detailed information about the programs and
courses offered by each institution. Data on the academic disciplines covered,
the levels of study available (certification, diplomas, undergraduate and
postgraduate programs) and modes of delivery (online and hybrid) were gathered
from calls, emails, online databases, official websites, government
publications and academic journal sources using a standard questionnaire. The
directory included information on the admission requirements, and other
information related to each institution or program to assist in making informed
decisions about pursuing ODL education in the West African sub-region. The
accuracy and validity of information and research on cross-referencing data
from multiple sources with respective institutions would be regularly updated to
reflect changes or additions in the ODL landscape in the West African
sub-region.
