EDUCATION, DIGITAL LITERACY AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE; ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS FOR DRIVING FUTURE IMPROVEMENT IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS, LAGOS STATE

Research Details

The paper examined the interrelated challenges at the national level: education, digital learning and academic performance in poverty reduction in primary schools, Lagos state. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The study used a multi stage sampling technique, involving 150 primary school teachers from public schools in Ojo Educational districts, Lagos state. A self- designed structured questionnaire with 20 item was used to obtain data for this study. Interrelated challenges of education, digital literacy, academic performance in poverty reduction in primary schools- ICEDLPS . Data collected was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. A pretest of the research instruments was done to establish reliability and validity. The findings, shows that for future improvement, academic performance and poverty alleviation, the primary school education in Lagos State has to be made functional and original to the learner through the appropriate approaches i.e digital literacy which could lead to good academic performance and eventually poverty reduction. These findings therefore, recommended that the Federal, state and Local Government need to capitally invest more in the primary education through its budget. Relevant approaches, methodology, curriculum which could lead to digital literacy should be encouraged, only then can poverty be truly alleviated in a nation like Nigeria.
