Hepatoprotective and Antioxidant properties of Andrographis paniculata in Wistar rat
Hepatic damage is associated with distortion of these metabolic functions Liver damage is associated with cellular necrosis, increase in tissue lipid peroxidation and depletion of reduced glutathione levels. In addition, serum levels of many biochemical markers like transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, triglycerides and cholesterol are elevated in liver disease. Andrographis paniculata, known as Kalmegh in the Indian system of Ayurveda, is a widely used home remedy for the common cold. The effectiveness of this herb has been widely recognized and its demand is on the rise. The major active compound in the plant is Andrographolide. This is often called a wondrous compound which possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antiviral and even antimalarial properties. The aqueous and ethanolic extract of the plant leaves will be done to carry out the qualitative phytochemical analysis, antioxidant and biochemical assays of the liver enzymes. the histopathology effect of the ibuprofen-induced toxicity will be done.
