The youth restiveness inter-tribal disturbances in some parts of the nation, kidnap incidences, campus cultism, political and extra judicial killings, militancy and bomb blasts are all indicators to lack of peace in the country.However, students all over the world are fast belonging more sophisticated than ever. Attempting to shield them from the realities of life that Newspaper cover on a daily basis is an exercise in futility. Further restricting reading to textbooks deprives students of the opportunity to become better citizen making newspapers as a source of binging current events and captivating information to the classroom to teach for the aims and purpose of resolving issues in social studies might be valuable reasons among many others presented in some related research studies (Street, 2002; Deveci 2005; Segall & Smith, 2006).Unluer and Yasar (2012) also emphasized that the newspap9ers as an important teaching tool for social studies are unfortunately not used sufficiently in classrooms (Unluer
