Developing Resilient Agri-Food Systems in a Changing Climate: Implications for Achieving SDG 12 and African Agenda 2063 s Aspiration 1
In Africa, climate change CC poses significant threats to Agric-food systems necessitating the development of resilient Agric-food system. African knowledge and voices have been historically marginalized in global discussions on effective strategies for building resilience in Agric-food systems resulting in a lack of context-specific solutions. Therefore, this study aims to address this knowledge gap by exploring effective strategies for building climate-resilience in Agric-food systems resulting in a lack of context-specific solutions. Therefore, this study aims to address this knowledge gap by exploring effective strategies for building climate-resilience in Agric-food system from African perspectives and evaluate its implications for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 12 and African Agenda 2063 s Aspiration 1. A mixed-method approach was employed combing survey questionnaire and expert interviews. Analysis reveals that African knowledge has been successful in building climate-resilient Agric-food systems and can contribute significantly to achieving SDG 12 s targets on sustainable consumption and production while also supporting Aspiration 1 s goal of a prosperous and inclusive Africa. Policy and practical implications for developing resilient Agric-food systems were identified emphasizing the need for integrated approaches that balance economic, social and environmental considerations and prioritizing African knowledge and perspectives.
