The Impacts of Anthropogenic induced climate change on coastal zones
Anthropogenic Activities such as Urbanization, Pollution, Land Degradation Deforestation and Land Enchroachment is a major threat to Coastal Resources such as Mangrove Ecosystem. It has been proven that major climate threats are induced by Anthropogenic Activities. This in turn pose adverse effect on the biological and socio-economic characteristics of the zone. The aim of this study is to look at the climate change and Anthropogenic induced mangrove degradation in coastal zones of Badagry, Lagos State. The objectives include the description of Lagos mangrove characteristics, assessment of the extent of degradation, evaluation of climate change factors and the strategies of nature based solution for coastal zone protection. The research will adopt mixed method using survey and experimental design. Research Instruments include structured questionnaire, focus group discussion, sattelite images, climate data analysis, water and sediment analysis. Climate Data will be collected from the Nigeria Meterological Agency, NIMET Satellite images will be gotten via GPS readings and then used for variuos coastal vegatation analysis. Structured questionnaire will be administered using research Asssistants while the thematic sessions will be used for the focussed group interview. Sediment and water samples will be collected, sediment in black polythene bags and water in sample bottles. This will be taken to the laboratory for analysis. The Data collected will be analysed using statistical packages for social scientists, SPSS. The expected result is the impact of anthropogenic induced climate change on Lagos coastal zones.
