EVALUATION OF THE CONCENTRATION LEVEL OF HEAVY METALS FROM CEMENT DUST IN THE SOILS AND SOME SELECTED VEGETABLE PLANTS AROUND CEMENT FACTORY, EWEKORO, OGUN STATE.
Introduction:Clean air, water and soil are becoming increasingly precious resources in the world Akguc et at, 2008 owing to high rate of pollution and contamination of the soil, water, and air.Aims and Objectives:This study sought to evaluate the concentration level of heavy metals from cement dust in the soils and some selected vegetables around Cement Factory, Ewekoro a community in the south-western part of Nigeria.Methodology:Plant samples collection were done as approved by APH. Plant samples collected was water leaf Talinum triangulare , Soko Celosia argentea, and Corchorus 0litorius Ewedu . The metals were determined on the filtrate of sample digestate by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy AAS Results:The concentrations mg/kg of Calcium Ca , Colbat Co , manganese Mn , Chloride of both soil and vegetable samples were depicted. However, nickel Ni . lead Ph , and copper Cu were not detected in both soil and vegetable samples. Contribution To Knowledge:It is recommended that efforts should be intensified to ameliorate the deteriorating level in the quality of the soils around this Cement factory
