Description: Financial catastrophe and impoverishment as a result of medical expenses, especially out of pocket (OOP) expenditures, has been a concern globally, more so, in developing countries where the inadequacy of state provided health system results in alarmingly excessive OOP expenditure. OOP payments for health care comprise more than 10 percent of total household consumption in Africa. Literature suggests that approximately 100 million people are pushed below the poverty line each year by payments for health care . The aim of this present research is to assess the extent of Catastrophic Healthcare Expenditures and factors responsible while exploring innovative interventions

Rapid Assessment of Service Readiness and PHC Performance in Ekiti State

Research Details

Primary healthcare (PHC) is an essential care of a healthcare system and has been recognized as a platform through which health can be delivered to all individuals in a community through their full participation and serves as the first point of contact for the rural communities in Nigeria therefore its importance can’t be overemphasized. One of the key roles of a health system is to ensure that people have access to quality health care. Access to services encompasses three components: availability, affordability, and acceptability. The physical presence of service delivery, which includes health infrastructure, core health staff, and aspects of service use, is referred to as service availability. This study aims to critically appraise the quality of services and the readiness to which services are delivered at the primary health facilities and management competencies among the medical officers of health in association with health system performance in Ekiti State.
