Research Interest

Topic: Chest And GIT Diseases Conditions

Description: A strong focus on respiratory diseases particularly in infectious and rare conditions within the Nigerian tertiary hospital context, with a parallel interest in optimizing diagnostic processes through improved imaging practices and clinician-radiologist communication.Understanding clinical patterns, disease burden, and diagnostic challenges specific to under-researched or complex lung conditions. Investigating how infectious diseases common in Nigeria HIV, TB affect pulmonary and cardiac health, with an emphasis on early detection, diagnosis, and quality of life.Assessing how imaging is utilized in diagnostics, especially chest radiographs, and improving communication between clinicians and radiologists to enhance diagnostic accuracy.

MRI Radiological Patterns in Ovarian Tumours: A Pilot Study At LASUTH

Research Details

Objective: To evaluate the reliability of pre-operative Magnetic ResonanceImaging MRI in predicting operative and pathological outcomes of ovariantumours in a Nigerian population LASUTH .Methods A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted at Lagos StateUniversity Teaching Hospital, Nigeria, between 2019 and 2024. The MRI,intraoperative, and histopathological results, from 87 patients with ovarian tumours were abstracted from the electronic archives of the Departments. Then, descriptivestatistics and Pearson chi-square tests were used with significant levels expressed as p 0.05.Results: The mean age of the patients was 45.66 years, with the majority 70.1% between 36-53 years. The most common MRI diagnosis was multiseptated cysticmass 34.5% , followed by adnexal multiloculated mass 19.5% . High correlationswere seen between MRI and histopathology: mucinous cystadenoma withendometriotic cyst 100% , multilobulated solid/cystic mass with borderline serous cystadenoma 20.8% , ovarian cysts with simple benign cysts 80% , andmultiseptated cystic masses with borderline serous cystadenoma 79.2% . Adnexalmultiloculated masses were intraoperatively linked with bilateral adnexal masses 100% , bilateral mesenteric masses with ovarian mass with adhesions 54.2% ,and multiseptated cystic masses with ovarian cystic mass with adhesions 92.3% .Conclusion: Pre-operative MRI predicts the intraoperative/pathological outcomesof ovarian tumours in this Nigerian population. This study encourages similarstudies with a larger sample in the future for validation and wideninggeneralizability.1. This study adds to evidence supporting the validity and reliability of MRI in diagnosing and predicting surgical and pathological outcomes of ovarian tumours in a Nigerian population; most existing studies are from high-income countries.2. Contribution to Society and Clinical Practice:With reliable MRI prediction, gynaecologists and surgeons can plan better for operative procedures, potentially reducing intraoperative surprises and complications leading to better-informed surgical consent, optimized surgical strategies, and reduced morbidity, with better patient outcomes.
