Perceived influence of sex education on social adjustment of adolescents with intellectual disabilities
Sexuality is an inseparable part of human and a fundamental pillar of our existence.
There is little knowledge about how teenagers with intellectual disabilities view sex education's impact on their social adjustment, despite the fact that it is acknowledged as a crucial element in fostering positive social behaviour, self-care, and interpersonal relationship.
This study adopted the descriptive survey research design.
The population comprised adolescents with intellectual disabilities in Alimosho Local Government area of Lagos State. Simple random sampling technique was adopted to select 120 respondents from the study area. Convenient sampling technique was also adopted to select the respondents from Alimosho Local Government area.
Frequency tables and percentage methods were used. Descriptive statistics (means and standard deviations) were employed. Statistics of t-test at 0.05 level of significance was equally used to test some of the hypotheses.
the study recommended among others that adolescents with intellectual disabilities should receive comprehensive and inclusive sex education according to their needs.
