“Due process is very key to the operations of our dear University. Once you violates that process, others will follow suit and you won’t be able to correct it”.
That was the statement of the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. ‘Lanre Fagbohun, as he met with the leadership of the Lagos State University Students’ Union [LASUSU] at a breakfast meeting on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at the University Senate Chamber.
The Vice Chancellor assured the President, LASUSU, Tayo Sekoni and his executives that the University Management would give the Union the platform to engage the Management in robust discussion, saying his administration is all inclusive. He added that the Management would always carry the Union along. He advised the executives to always recognise line of authority in discharging their responsibilities and always involve the Students’ Affairs Division as well.
Finally, Professor Fagbohun noted that no resolution has ever taken place on the street, but usually through the dialogue at the roundtable. He urged the Union to embrace dialogue in resolving issues. Other Principal Officers present, toed the line of the Vice Chancellor by counselling the LASUSU Executives to always engage in constructive dialogue, rather, than taking to the streets in protest to press home their demands.
The President, LASUSU, Tayo Sekoni on behalf of other executives responding to the Management Team remarks applauded the Vice Chancellor and his team for the breakfast meeting. He promised the Union would key into the vision of the Management. “We are ready to support and be part of the Vice Chancellor’s vision. LASU has been doing well in external competitions and we can use this to rebrand the image of our institution. I strongly believe more of these meetings will be beneficial. Thank you for this opportunity”, he added.
